Abstract

The contribution analyzes the Italian legislation on the right of generalised civic access (so-called FOIA) within the framework of some models and experiences developed in European and non-European legal systems. In addition to the regulations on freedom of information provided by the Italian legal system, the paper examines the legislation on “freedom of information” adopted in Sweden, France, Spain, and in the United States of America. From the common matrix of the regulations under consideration, the differential traits stand out, linked to the core of each legal system, its constitutional history, and the natural evolutionary process of values and guiding criteria.
