At least since Norbert Wiener’s cyber circle (in the 1950s), the phenomenon of the interconnection of computer devices and the development of networks has been linked to elements of analysis that are not only technical, but also social. Within this context, this study proposes reflections on democracy as a human value that need to be synthesized in technologies that are, in this sense, communication network platforms, in the hypothesis of the technologies themselves (and their developers) aim to reflect online the social system present in the offline world. Therefore, the present research adopts the perspective of a design that is sensitive to human values (Value-Sensitive Design). This analysis is exemplified with the app Bridgefy, which was used globally in 2020 in various protests, such as in the “Black Lives Matter” movement and in the protests against the re-election of the Belarusian president, Aleksandr Lukashenko.
